“You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf” John Kabat-Zinn
Our lives are full of transitions that bring about change. Some of the change is welcome like marriage or starting college. Other changes like a car accident or illness in the family catch us off guard.
What is your experience with your current life transition?
Are feeling excited and joyful about your next step?
Feeling prepared and confident in how to approach the challenges your next transition will bring?
Or are you feeling overwhelmed? Disappointed? Stressed?
Do you find yourself unprepared to face your current difficulties?
Do you feel like you have no or little supports around you?
Do you feel confused, lost, disoriented or struggling?
Do you wish you had someone to talk to share your fears and to make sense of your present?
I certainly went through my fair share of life transitions and have felt all the feelings described above. These are some of the few examples that I am sure many of you can relate to.
But no matter what the change or transition was, I did not always know what to expect and was often surprised by my own reactions. So often I would get caught up in the excitement of a transition like moving or in the stress of being a caregiver to a grandparent that I would completely overlook the losses that accompanied these changes. I also found myself withdrawing from people at these times; at times when I needed support the most.
It is at that time that we need the most a place of refuge to make sense of the chaos, external or internal, that engulf us. A place where we can find guidance, objectivity, and wisdom as I was lucky to find it for myself in my therapist and life coach, Helen.
It is because of my own life transition journey that I was inspired to create Expat-therapy, to support others at times when they need a place of safety and comfort to gain clarity and regain strength.
I would like to accompany you on your transition so that in the process of our journey together you can:
- Build resilience in facing life’s challenges and transitions.
- Successfully adjust to a new role in your life.
- Create healthier dynamics in your relationships.
- Regain a sense of control over your feeling and emotions.
